In Anticipation of Advent

24. November 2015

Actually I wasn’t going to make a DIY advent calendar this year. Well that is what I thought back in October but last week I just couldn’t help myself but start working on ideas just as I can’t leave my boy without a calendar. The tradition started few years ago while I was searching for the Mon Chéri one and couldn’t find one and decided just to make my own. So to stick to traditions I headed to home improvement market and the Christmas deco dealer of my trust and two hours later I was ready to start. First I painted the wooden board in grey and the little boxes in red. After a night of drying I was ready for some glueing action. First the boxes to the board and then the numbered stars to the boxes. Now all that needs to be done is to hide little surprises inside the boxes before 1st December. This year we decided to split the calendar between Alex, Teddy and me. So this way all three of us will get little surprise every third day. And of course I have something coming up for you as well…

You’ll need for the calendar:

1 wooden board (aprox. 60x 70cm)
24 boxes
24 stars
something to write numbers on the stars and glue
Adventskranz

While we talked about colors for this year’s decoration we decided to go with a classic color. And what screams more traditional and classic, than red? As for the advent wreath I went with half DIY one. I got the ready wreath and just added red berries and candles to it and I’m ready for the holiday season.

And here you can find the Advent wreath if you are curious how my Advent wreath 2014 or Advent wreath 2013 looked like.

Are you going this year for a DIY Advent calendar?
